Ultra-Safe Fission Batteries
A Game Changer in Nuclear Technology.
What are nuclear fission batteries?
They are small 1-20 MWe, load-following nuclear power plants mimicking the attributes of a battery, and which are powered by sealed nuclear fission micro-reactors for a long duration of years without refuelling
Quoting MIT professor Jacopo Buongiorno "micro-reactors and nuclear batteries present a
GAME CHANGER
in nuclear technology".
The Office of Nuclear Energy of the USA Department of Energy has concluded, based on these developments, that micro-reactors and nuclear batteries are the future of nuclear energy, and will substitute at least, the existing large Diesel generators (which emit a substantial amount of CO2) by nuclear batteries, as documented in the following video.
